Clubhouse Renovation Plan

Refurbishing the bar & clubhouse for the years ahead

July 2026

We’re delighted to share some detail regarding the proposal to upgrade and refurbish the clubhouse, with a particular focus on the bar area that so many members have been asking for.

Below you will find some detail relating to the project, together with imagery to give you a visual idea of how it will look. We are now in the process of gaining detailed costings for the project. Once received, we will arrange a meeting in the autumn to present the plans, costs and timescales to the members, and to answer any questions you may have about the project.

If you have any questions you’d like answered at the meeting, whether general or specific, please feel free to email secretary@wbgc.co.uk.

An Investment in the Future of Our Club

This refurbishment is an important investment in the future of our club. We believe it will improve the experience for members and visitors alike, help us attract new members and visitors, and ensure the clubhouse remains somewhere we can all enjoy and be proud of for many years to come.

We invite you to take a look at the artists’ impressions and outline plans, which show the direction we are proposing for the clubhouse.

Please note: these artist’s impressions of the newly refurbished areas are intended to provide a guide as to the aesthetic and atmosphere we wish to create, rather than being a design we are completely set on. As such, please treat light fittings, fabrics and textures as a guide at this stage.

The Thinking Behind the Design

The aim is to modernise the clubhouse while respecting the character and traditions that make the club special. Rather than changing its identity, the intention is to build on its strengths and create spaces that work better for members today and in the future.

A key part of the design is bringing more natural light into the building and creating a greater sense of openness through vaulted ceilings, improved layouts and better links between different areas of the clubhouse. The result is a brighter, more welcoming environment that feels connected and comfortable.

Particular attention has been given to the bar area, creating a stronger focal point within the clubhouse. The spike bar has also been redesigned to provide a more relaxed and sociable space that can be enjoyed throughout the day. Whether dropping in before a round, meeting friends for a morning coffee, enjoying a drink or a meal, or unwinding afterwards, the aim is to make the clubhouse a place where members and guests want to spend time.

Overall, the proposals seek to balance the club’s heritage with the expectations of a modern clubhouse, preserving the atmosphere members value while ensuring the facilities continue to meet the needs of the club for years to come.

What Happens Next

The next stage of the project is to undertake a competitive tendering process for the building works. This will allow us to obtain detailed pricing, assess options and ensure the project delivers the best possible value for the club.

We will then be holding a Members’ Presentation Meeting in the autumn to share the proposals in more detail, including the outcome of the tendering process. In the meantime, we wanted to give members an early look at the plans and explain some of the thinking behind them. We welcome your feedback and look forward to hearing your views as the project develops.
